Create the leave types for employees paid time off
Leave types are the labels given to periods of paid and unpaid time off that your permanent full and part time employees take. Under modern awards most employees are entitled to at least some leave.
Leave types
Accounts are pre-loaded with the most common leave types, or your Implementation Consultant may have set them up for you as part of the award build process. Common leave types include:
- Annual leave
- Personal/carer's leave
- Compassionate leave
- Long service leave
- Parental leave
- Public holiday leave
- Community service leave (unpaid)
- Other unpaid leave
Creating a leave type
To view and manage leave types, go to Payroll & Leave > Leave types. To add a new leave type, click Create new.
The Leave balance option should be selected for leave types that work with an accrued balance, such as Annual leave.
The Skip holiday option should be checked for all leave types that are not public holiday leave. This allows for multi-day leave requests that include a public holiday to automatically exclude that leave type for that day, as it likely is covered by a different awards type, usually public holiday leave. Click Save.
Defining which leave types are available to which employees, as well as which are paid and unpaid, is done via the award setup, more on that in the Award settings article.
